CVA Faces Chambers in Game 2

Posted by cvaalumni on August 31, 2007

From the Daily Home:

The Rebels of Coosa Valley Academy opened the 2007 season with a victory over Central Christian on Aug. 24.

Coosa Valley will put their undefeated record on the line this week against 2A Chambers Academy. The Rebels impressed second-year coach Steven Mackin in the opener.

“They played much better in the second half both offensively and defensively,” Mackin said. “We were very, very physical (Thursday night). It was probably the most physical I’ve seen our kids play since I came to Coosa Valley. We played real aggressive.”

The Rebels squared off with Chambers Academy just a couple of weeks ago in a preseason scrimmage, so there may not be many surprises for either team on Friday. Chase Lacy led the way for the Rebels a week ago, accumulating 344 all-purpose yards. Quarterback Whit Lovelady completed 13 of 27 passes for 260 yards. Junior J.B. Ripley also caught two touchdown passes for the Rebels last week.

From The Daily Home:

HARPERSVILLE – The Rebels of Coosa Valley Academy enter the 2007 season with high expectations.

Second-year head coach Steven Mackin said he and his team want to be in the playoffs once the regular season ends. While a number of players return to help achieve that goal, the road to the postseason won’t be an easy one for the Rebels.

Coosa Valley opens the season on Thursday with a region game against Central Christian in Selma. To prepare for the region game, the Rebels have played in two preseason jamborees. Two weeks ago, Coosa Valley traveled to Hooper Academy in Hope Hull for their first jamboree. The Rebels then hosted Chambers Academy on Friday for their final preseason game.

CVA Opens Preseason with Loss to Chambers

Posted by cvaalumni on August 22, 2007

From The Shelby County Reporter:

HARPERSVILLE – Coosa Valley had its first test of the year Friday, and if the Rebels want to ace the real thing when AISA football officially kicks off this week, they’ll have to find a way to get more points on the board.

CVA was tested early by Chambers Academy in a jamboree featuring four nine-minute quarters.

The teams played close throughout with Chambers scoring on a third-and-long hail-mary pass in the first half and then turning an interception into a short touchdown run in the second half. Chambers won the scrimmage 12-3.
